Vincent Couche

Vincent Couche Champagne

Welcome to the heart of the Côte des Bar, where Vincent Couche cultivates his 13 hectares of Champagne vineyards using biodynamic methods.

The terroir

  • MONTGUEUX: 3 hectares of south-facing Chardonnay vines growing in Cretaceous chalk soil (only 40 cm of topsoil over the chalk).
  • BUXUEIL: 10 hectares of vineyards planted mainly with Pinot Noir. On the advice of Claude Bourguignon, Chardonnay vines have been planted on certain plots. The vines face mainly south and west, with steep slopes and the River Seine below. This area has a specific microclimate with high temperatures, whilst retaining a certain level of humidity thanks to the presence of the River Seine at the foot of the vineyards.

Winemaker Vincent Couche tells you all about it

“My mother passed on her passion to me. The call of the vineyard runs through her veins, just as it does through mine. My work is a vocation. I love a challenge and cannot imagine working in any way other than by striving for excellence. Here I reveal my innermost feelings, that daily embrace that binds me irrevocably to my vineyard. When I am with it, my heart rejoices. It speaks to me. I revel in these silent, intimate conversations. I lavish it with every care. I am attentive to her slightest tremor, those almost imperceptible signs of her impetuous mood. Here I am, then, hopelessly in love with my land, irrevocably swept up in the throes of its whims, constantly eager to satisfy it and to cultivate, without ceasing, this mutual and ever-growing love. This game of seduction continues right up to the very moment of the harvest when, in a final embrace, she finally offers me her clear, fresh and delicate juice, the first fruits of another intense joy. In the intimacy of the cellar, she allows her finest aromas to unfold and soon, in the light of day, indulges in the game of fame. With a sigh of satisfaction, she breathes her last and is immediately reborn, in a new light, more seductive than ever.”
