Maxime Magnon is one of the most talented winemakers in Corbières. Originally from Burgundy, he learned his trade under the guidance of renowned winemakers such as Thierry Allemand and Philippe Valette. Since 2002, he has been managing his 14 hectares of vineyards using certified organic and biodynamic methods.
Influenced by the Beaujolais school, Maxime Magnon offers a unique style within the Corbières appellation. His wines combine fruitiness, freshness, finesse and drinkability with exceptional precision and balance.
Maxime Magnon tends his vineyards in the communes of Villeneuve-les-Corbières, Durban and Cascastel. These magnificent terroirs in the Vallée du Paradis are predominantly clay-limestone and schist. The work is carried out mainly by hand and using a crawler tractor. Strict organic and biodynamic practices are followed: no use of plant protection products. Sheep and cows graze in the vineyards during the winter, much like his illustrious neighbour Didier Barral. This helps to promote microbial life in the soil, whilst also reducing unnecessary ploughing and limiting soil compaction.
Maxime Magnon’s general philosophy is to intervene as little as possible in the winery. Grapes are harvested by hand into small crates. Natural vinification (using indigenous yeasts) and low-temperature fermentation. Ageing takes place in barrels, with no fining or filtration for the reds. Light filtration is used for the whites. Sulphur is used in homeopathic doses.
