Originally from Montagny, though not from a wine-growing background, Stéphane ALADAME established his own estate in 1992. The first (micro) harvest in 1992 yielded 1,800 bottles produced from a 28-are plot. The year 1993, with the lease of 2 hectares of Montagny 1er Cru, marked the estate’s true beginning.
Gradually, the estate expanded through the acquisition of vineyards and new plantings, and now covers nearly 8 hectares (including 7 hectares of Montagny Premier Cru vineyards). Julie, Stéphane’s wife, who comes from a wine-growing village near Montagny, joined the estate in 2013.
Since its establishment in 1992, Stéphane Aladame has managed his estate in Montagny using ultra-sustainable viticulture. The vines are cultivated with respect for the terroir, and the soil is worked mechanically (ploughing, scarification, etc.). In some plots, natural grass cover helps to limit erosion and thus preserve the soil. Stéphane Aladame carries out phytosanitary treatments using only natural products (sulphur and copper). Furthermore, these treatments are not carried out systematically but are determined by weather conditions. The number of treatments can vary from 5 to 12 depending on the year. It’s all about the grapes! The most important thing in making a great wine is to have beautiful grapes that will bring balance and purity to the wines.
From his Bourgogne Mon Blanc (delicate and rounded) to his Premiers Crus Les Maroques (fresh and balanced), Les Burnins (generous and full-bodied) and Les Coères (subtle, complex and mineral), Stéphane Aladame demonstrates his highly perfectionist style. His wines are models of finesse and freshness and possess excellent ageing potential.
