Taken over in 2017 by Harry and Céline Gozlan, La Mongestine has been given a new lease of life in the Green Provence. Nestled in the Verdon valley, the estate is a veritable haven of greenery facing due north. With the support of a new, young and dynamic team, the new owners are breathing new life into the estate. Using organic farming methods and natural winemaking techniques, they produce distinctive, inspired wines such as Georgette and Auguste.
The Domaine de la Mongestine is situated near the village of Artigues, in the heart of the Provence-Verdon region, north-east of Aix-en-Provence. A true haven of greenery, the region comprises some fifteen villages, all committed to preserving the local economy and the environment through traditional and authentic agricultural and tourist activities. A green oasis just a stone’s throw from the main towns of Provence.
The 36 hectares of vineyards at Domaine de la Mongestine form a single contiguous block. The soil is mainly clay-limestone in the lower sections and very stony at the foot of the hill. The main grape varieties are Syrah, Grenache Noir, Cinsault, Vermentino, Roussane and Grenache Blanc.
The entire estate has been certified organic since 2014. Winemaking is carried out by plot and by grape variety, using indigenous yeasts, with harvests spread out over a long period. The wine is aged on lees, in barrels, amphorae or concrete eggs, depending on the cuvée.
