On the heights of the limestone plateau of Saint-Chinian, Château Castigno is one of the most demanding and freest estates in Languedoc.
The 25 hectares of vines of the estate are nestled in an ecosystem of 200 hectares in one piece benefiting from a natural freshness at 300m altitude.
Organic and biodynamic culture certified on the entire estate; Most of the work is carried out with two horses at home.
The old vines, sometimes centuries-old, all in mass selection, give rise to identity wines, and cuvées Trait de Lune unique in their kind.
On a very mineral outcropping rock at 280-300 m altitude, the Castle Castigno benefits from a lower temperature of 4° to 5° compared to the rest of the appellation. So a lot of natural freshness.
The subsoil of the estate is a geological patchwork of rare complexity: red clay, active limestone, ochre bauxite and outcrop sandstone follow one another from one plot to another, offering each grape variety a different register of expression.
The estate’s 25 hectares of vines are protected by low walls, scrubland, groves and meadows in a single block of 200 hectares: a true ecosystem!
The plots are 20 to 80 years old, some more than 100 years old, all in mass selection.
All of Château Castigno is made in organic and biodynamic, both certified. Most of the work is carried out with two horses at home.
The harvests are done by hand, with for the parcel cuvées a night harvest. The sweet vinifications, mastered with indigenous yeasts, give identity wines.
The range of wines from Château Castigno is divided into three categories:
