Mas Théo is situated in Saint Restitut in the Drôme Provençale and spans the small appellation of Grignan-lès-Adhémar.
On this small family estate run by Laurent Clapier, every stage of production is carried out by hand.
Over the years, the estate has demonstrated its commitment to and respect for the vineyard by obtaining certification for its work. Organic farming (2004) and then biodynamics (2011).
The Mas Théo vineyard is situated on a rather exceptional terroir. The surface soil consists mainly of rounded pebbles (from an ancient Rhône beach dating back to the Quaternary period), whilst the subsoil is clayey and varies in depth. The Mistral wind blows over the vines throughout the year. The grape varieties are typical of the Rhône Valley. Syrah and Grenache make up the bulk of the vineyard, alongside Mourvèdre, Carignan and Cinsault.
“For me, biodynamics is the logical next step in my personal journey towards the sustainable management of my vineyard. The biodynamic approach builds on organic farming, guiding me towards a deeper understanding of living organisms. It brings me closer to my grandfather’s land; his farming was guided by common sense, which was nothing other than careful observation. Today, I see and experience my vineyard differently. The observations I make on my estate – a living vineyard, expressive wines – encourage me to develop this philosophy.” Click here to find out more about the estate’s philosophy.
