Originally intended for friends, BATOR’s skittles posters are now available to all fans of skittles and corkscrews. We are delighted to be helping to showcase the drawings and illustrations of a keen skittles player!
These small posters (as defined by Bator) reveal, through their deliberately clumsy lines, their play on words and their use of colour, all the poetry of the secret life of skittles.
Welcome to this humorous and poetic journey through the world of wine.
When, by happy chance, after having knocked down a few skittles in the company of some wine-loving friends, our mind lingers on the back label of a bottle and lets a touch of our curiosity soak in, it is not impossible to spot some charming ideas there and, all of a sudden, fall in love with the most unexpected projects… Thus were born Les Quilles, designed by the artist Bator, which we are delighted to unveil here.
He was, in turn, a painter, decorator and interior designer (we prefer to mention here only his more distinguished pursuits, as his life was peppered with many other, far more spectacular exploits…) But now, having rekindled his old passions, this good old chap, armed with pens and pencils, has turned into a ‘serial bowler ’…
Until recently confined to the discreet circle of his inner circle, the idea has recently gained traction – let’s be clear about this – in one of those exclusive haunts frequented by a fair number of Jeroboam’s followers (to put it politely).
After that, it took little more than a few fine aperitifs for our friend Bator to finally lose his head, driven to the brink in particular by a certain individual known as Taulier. (The latter, suddenly seized by an irresistible urge to reveal the imagination of his singular friend, decided that he could not leave it at that.)
Now, with all sails set, Bator is ready to brighten up your dreary interiors with his fish-shaped ornaments, sketched by hand before being refined by a rudimentary form of digital intelligence, then printed on paper of a quality well-suited to such flights of fancy. These ‘little posters’ (as Bator calls them) thus reveal, through their deliberately ‘clumsy’ lines and their play on words and colours, all the poetry of the secret life of skittles… A vast subject, of course, neglected by the deplorable intellect of our times.
So here, for your viewing pleasure, are a few highlights from this series, which is sure to spawn many more. For whilst Bator may not be one to waste his time on nonsense, you have to admit he’s a real pin-knocker! And as the saying goes: we’ve seen it all before! Good grief!
