Le Moulin de Peyronin produces magnificent organic wines in Bordeaux, in the true spirit of traditional winemaking. Franck and Véronique TERRAL took over the estate from Claude Jougla (a renowned cooper) in 2006. The estate is situated in the commune of Pujols-sur-Dordogne, east of Saint-Emilion. It lies approximately 6 km south of Castillon-la-Bataille, at an altitude of 75 to 80 metres.
The estate boasts excellent clay-limestone soil. It forms a single, contiguous plot surrounding the property and overlooks the beautiful Dordogne valley. The estate covers 20 hectares, 14 of which are planted with vines (11.5 hectares of red and 2.5 hectares of white).
Le Moulin de Peyronin practises certified organic farming (ECOCERT) to produce authentic Bordeaux wines. These practices are in line with environmental protection. Such as the use of green manure as fertiliser. Or the planting of hedgerows around the vines to encourage populations of beneficial wildlife. This creates a natural barrier against chemicals from neighbouring plots. Franck also uses herbal teas and plant-based liquid manure. Manual labour is prioritised. Preventive pest control is very important: observing the vineyard is therefore essential. It is not uncommon to see sheep in the vineyards, helping to clear weeds from the rows and provide manure.
