Description
Produced using organic farming methods and with a focus on biodiversity, Badia a Coltibuono Chianti Classico Riserva is a wine of great complexity. Its deep ruby colour reveals multiple shades in the light. The nose reveals notes of blackberries, black cherries, tobacco and damp earth. Firm, fine-grained tannins give the wine perfect structure. This Chianti Classico Riserva is a fine ambassador for Sangiovese and Tuscany.
Organic farming and environmental sustainability
The Badia a Coltibuono estate is committed with enthusiasm and determination to protecting natural resources: soil, animals and people. Here, man works in harmony with nature to produce wines that respect the environment. But also the people who live there, biological rhythms and the rhythms of nature. Maintaining the health of the vines is the starting point of the organic approach: controlled grass cover to increase the soil’s organic matter and curb erosion, thereby making the plants more resistant to disease.
In the vineyard, in the cellar
Badia a Coltibuono Chianti Classico Riserva comes from the Monti in Chianti production area (Poggino, Vignone, Montebello, Argenina) at an altitude of 260–370 metres. The soil consists of clay and limestone. The Sangiovese grape variety makes up the vast majority of the blend (vines aged 15–40 years). It is complemented by the indigenous grape varieties Canaiolo, Ciliegiolo and Colorino. The grapes are harvested by hand and sorted manually in the cellar. Vinification begins with fermentation using indigenous yeasts, followed by maceration on the skins for 3 weeks. This is followed by ageing for 24 months in French and Austrian oak barrels and 4 months in the bottle.
