Description
The nose of this Josmeyer Mise de Printemps Alsace Pinot Blanc offers subtle floral notes. On the palate, spring returns and unfolds with blood orange juice, enhanced by fleshy yellow nectarines. The finish is fresh and lingers with a hint of salinity. This blend of Pinot Auxerrois and Pinot Blanc is a very expressive cuvée, representative of the Josmeyer estate.
Terroir
The grapes for this Alsace Pinot Blanc Mise de Printemps cuvée come from plots on the Rotenberg. The north-facing slopes of the Grand Cru Hengst. And from plots on the Herrenweg in Turckheim and Wintzenheim. These soils are characterised by colluvial deposits comprising a gravelly-sandy substrate, alluvium and pebbles. Similar to the soil of Graves, this terroir produces aromatic, ripe and elegant wines.
In the vineyard, in the cellar
80% Auxerrois / 20% Pinot Blanc. Hand-harvested. Average vine age 40 years, yield 60 hl/ha. Since 2004, the entire vineyard has been cultivated organically and biodynamically. This alternative approach, more demanding yet focused on quality, fosters a symbiosis between sky, earth, plant and man. This close relationship between these four elements yields noble grapes, which in turn give rise to a dense, balanced wine with a unique personality.
Whole-bunch pneumatic pressing (lasting between 5 and 8 hours). Spontaneous fermentation without the addition of enzymes or selected yeasts, and without chaptalisation. Fermentation in century-old wooden casks for a period ranging from one to four months. Matured on fine lees in old casks until bottling. 2g residual sugar.
