Description
A wonderful Chiroubles Vin de Kav from Karim Vionnet! … A silky, delicate cuvée, carried by a rich fruitiness and a delightful tension. The texture is remarkable, the energy stunning. A real favourite!
A magnificent ruby colour, luminous and beautifully intense. The nose evokes tart red berries, which are also found on the palate. The attack is silky and vibrant; the fruit delicately coats the mouth, whilst the minerality lends the whole a lovely depth. Pure joy!
In the vineyard, in the cellar
Karim Vionnet’s plots are located mainly in the communes of Quincié, Beaujeu and Lantignié. The land lies on the mid-slopes, with soil types varying greatly from plot to plot: marl, schist and sand. Karim is not certified organic, but his viticulture is entirely natural. No use of plant protection products, pesticides or the like. He maintains a rich organic life in his soils, prioritising the enhancement of his terroir. The same applies in the cellar, with winemaking as natural as possible: indigenous yeasts, no added sugar and virtually no sulphites.
The Chiroubles appellation
The Chiroubles cru is situated north of the Rhône, in the heart of the village from which it takes its name. The AOC nestles on hillsides arranged in granite cirques, at altitudes between 250 and 450 metres. Their succession with valleys thus allows for optimal exposure of the vines. Here lie the highest vineyards in Beaujolais (slopes often exceed 30%), a guarantee of freshness in the context of current climate change. The winegrowers of Chiroubles are often described as ‘heroic’, such is the manual and meticulous work required on these rugged slopes.
