Description
Stéphane Ogier’s Côte-Rôtie La Côte Blonde comes from a small, steeply sloping plot overlooking the village of Ampuis. The vines are situated at an altitude of between 210 and 247 metres, nestled within a patch of light-coloured rock (gneiss). This cuvée is composed of 95% Syrah and 5% Viognier. During vinification, the grapes are fully destemmed and undergo cold maceration in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats. Indigenous yeasts are used. The wine is aged for 20 months in French oak barrels. The nose is extremely subtle, combining fruity (red berries) and floral (rose, violet) notes. The palate is velvety, luscious, spicy and full-bodied. It retains a lovely freshness and the tannic structure is elegant. With an ageing potential of around twenty years, the wine is very close to its peak.
The estate
It was in 1997 that Stéphane Ogier joined the family estate, which has been rooted in the hillsides of Ampuis for seven generations. Upon taking over from his father Michel, he chose to work meticulously with his various terroirs to reveal the unique character of these historic sites.
Over the years, the estate has expanded beyond the village boundaries, driven by a desire to discover and enhance new terroirs. From his experience in Burgundy, Stéphane Ogier retains a taste for elegance and finesse, which has become a hallmark of his wines. Each year, the winemaker takes care to vinify the plots separately, to bring out the best of their potential. The blends are adjusted according to the vintages, each telling its own story about his wines.
