Description
Stéphane Aladame’s Montagny 1er cru Les Vignes Derrière displays fine complexity. The bouquet unfolds with notes of yellow fruit, underpinned by a full-bodied, well-structured palate. A very well-rounded wine whose minerality and freshness lend it elegance and balance, with a lovely lingering finish marked by subtle bitterness.
In the vineyard, in the cellar
The Montagny Les Vignes Derrières cuvée comes from a 1er cru plot in the commune of Montagny-les-Buxy (southern Côte Chalonnaise). Area under cultivation: 96 ares 82 ca. Age of vines: 5 to 25 years. Aspect: East. Soil: Clay-limestone. Altitude: 345 m.
Direct pressing of whole grapes followed by light settling. Fermentation with indigenous yeasts. Fermentation and ageing: 50% in vats (including concrete egg-shaped vats) and 50% in oak barrels (no new barrels). 100% malolactic fermentation. 20 to 25 mg/l free SO2.
The estate
Since its creation in 1992, Stéphane Aladame has managed his estate using ultra-sustainable viticultural practices. He cultivates his vines with respect for the terroir and uses mechanical methods sparingly (ploughing, scarification, etc.). In certain plots, natural grass cover helps limit erosion and thus preserve the soil. He carries out phytosanitary treatments using only natural products (sulphur and copper). These treatments are not carried out systematically but are determined by weather conditions. The number of treatments can vary from 5 to 12 depending on the year. It’s all about the grapes! The most important thing in making a great wine is to have beautiful grapes that will bring balance and purity to the wines.
