Description
Stéphane Aladame’s Montagny 1er cru Les Burnins is a generous and powerful expression of the appellation. The old vines at Les Burnins, some of which are almost a century old, contribute to the wine’s depth, richness and complexity. The nose is expressive, with notes of orgeat, mandarin, muscat and honey. On the palate, it combines intensity, vibrancy, richness and generosity. It would be ideal to allow it a few years (around 5 years) to reveal its full potential.
In the vineyard, in the cellar
The Les Burnins cuvée comes from a 27.88-acre plot located in the commune of Montagny-lès-Buxy. South-facing. Clay-limestone soil. Altitude 300m. Chardonnay grape variety.
Direct pressing of whole grapes followed by light settling. Fermentation with indigenous yeasts. Fermentation and ageing 100% in oak barrels (no new barrels). 100% malolactic fermentation. 20 to 25 mg/l free SO2.
The estate
Since its creation in 1992, Stéphane Aladame has managed his estate using ultra-sustainable viticultural practices. He cultivates his vines with respect for the terroir and uses mechanical methods sparingly (ploughing, scarification, etc.). In certain plots, natural grass cover helps to limit erosion and thus preserve the soil. He carries out phytosanitary treatments using only natural products (sulphur and copper). These treatments are not carried out systematically but are determined by weather conditions. The number of treatments can vary from 5 to 12 depending on the year. It’s all about the grapes! The most important thing in making a great wine is to have beautiful grapes that will bring balance and purity to the wines.
