Description
Stéphane Aladame’s Montagny 1er cru Les Coères is a wine that offers exceptional mineral subtlety. It draws on a very clay-rich terroir that lends it great complexity as well as a rich and powerful body.
In the vineyard, in the cellar
The Les Coères cuvée comes from a plot in the commune of Saint-Clément-sur-Guye (southern Côte Chalonnaise), in the locality known as ‘Le Clou’. South-facing. Clay-limestone soil. Altitude between 360m and 385m.
Direct pressing of whole grapes followed by light settling. Fermentation with indigenous yeasts. Fermentation and ageing 75% in vats and 25% in oak barrels. 100% malolactic fermentation. 20 to 25 mg/l free SO2.
The estate
Since its creation in 1992, Stéphane Aladame has managed his estate using ultra-sustainable viticulture. He cultivates his vines with respect for the terroir and uses mechanical methods sparingly (ploughing, scarification, etc.). In certain plots, natural grass cover helps limit erosion and thus preserve the soil. He carries out phytosanitary treatments using only natural products (sulphur and copper). These treatments are not carried out systematically but are determined by weather conditions. The number of treatments can vary from 5 to 12 depending on the year. It’s all about the grapes! The most important thing in making a great wine is to have beautiful grapes that will bring balance and purity to the wines.
