Description
Maxime Magnon Corbières Campagnès combines body, depth and density with finesse and elegance. The cuvée is made entirely from Carignan grapes, vinified as whole bunches with extended vatting periods before ageing for a year in barrels. Red and black fruit, hints of sweet spices and a silky texture make this wine a true charmer – southern in character yet fresh.
In the vineyard
Maxime Magnon tends his vines in the communes of Villeneuve-les-Corbières, Durban and Cascastel. These magnificent terroirs of the Vallée du Paradis are predominantly clay-limestone and schist. Work is carried out mainly by hand and using a crawler tractor. Strict organic farming and biodynamic practices: no use of plant protection products. Sheep and cows graze in the vineyards during the winter, much like his illustrious neighbour Didier Barral. This helps to promote microbial life in the soil, whilst also reducing unnecessary ploughing and limiting soil compaction.
In the cellar
This fine cuvée from Maxime Magnon is made from century-old Carignan vines. After being hand-harvested into small crates, the whole bunches ferment at low temperatures, without sulphur and using only indigenous yeasts. The winemaking process then continues in the traditional manner, with some punching down. The wines are aged in oak barrels. They are bottled without fining or filtration and with a homeopathic dose of sulphur where necessary.
