Antoine Sunier
Régnié
Montmerond 2020

50.00

"Antoine Sunier’s Régnié Montmerrond is a single-vineyard cuvée from 1.5 hectares of more granitic soil. The result is a refined, vibrant wine driven by a stunning energy. A real favourite. Initially, floral notes of peony emerge, followed by spices, notably white pepper. We are then immersed in black cherry juice, blackcurrant jelly and other ripe red fruits. The palate, slightly sunny, fleshy and generous, is carried by a natural acidity that bodes well for many years of ageing."

Description

Initially, floral notes of peony, spices and white pepper characterise this Régnié Montmerond from Antoine Sunier. The palate then reveals notes of black cherry juice, blackcurrant jelly and other ripe red fruits. Delicate and refined on the palate, it possesses a natural acidity that suggests it will age beautifully over the years.

In the vineyard, in the cellar

Antoine Sunier’s Morgon comes from a 1.30-hectare plot of white-juiced black Gamay grown organically. The average age of the vines is 60 years. They are situated in a locality known as Montmerond, facing south at an altitude of 350 metres. The soil is 100% granite, shallow and very stony; a high-quality terroir on bedrock.

After being transferred to vats by gravity, vinification takes place using indigenous yeasts, without additives, via carbonic maceration for 10–12 days. This is followed by manual devatting and very gentle horizontal pressing by hand over the course of a day. Aged 100% in Burgundy barrels (8 years old) for 10 months on fine lees without additives.

Blended for one month, lightly sulphited before bottling; unfiltered and unfined.
