Based in Régnié, Antoine Sunier has quickly become a leading figure in the world of Beaujolais natural wines. It was at his brother Julien Sunier’s estate that he first learnt the various aspects of vine cultivation. A few visits were enough to convince him to go back to school to learn the basics of the trade, and he too set up his own estate in 2014. He then cut his teeth as a winemaker with Jean-Claude Lapalu in Brouilly. It’s hard to imagine a better start!
Approximately 5.50 hectares of vineyards, including 4.30 hectares of Régnié (locations: Les Forchets, Les Bulliats, Montmerond; average vine age 50 years, 80% certified organic since 2017, the remainder in conversion) and 1.20 ha of Morgon (Grand Cras vineyard with 60-year-old vines, certified organic for 15 years), and a small winery that cannot accommodate more grapes than those produced on these two plots.
Antoine Sunier runs his estate as an organic vineyard. The wines are made exclusively from grapes grown on the estate. The grapes are harvested by hand. The wines are vinified without additives and are lightly sulphited at bottling. All this is done with the aim of producing wines that are as pure and authentic as possible, seeking to reflect the terroir whilst respecting both people and nature.
