Description

Château d'Arcole's Saint-Emilion Grand Cru boasts a deep, purple colour. The nose is characterised by intense aromas of blackcurrant and blackberry. On the palate, it is smooth, full-bodied and charming. This wine shines with its finesse, elegance and splendid clarity!

In the vineyard

Château d'Arcole has been practising organic farming since the 1960s. It is the oldest vineyard in Saint-Emilion committed to an environmental approach. On its unique, unspoilt land, it focuses on a single plot surrounding the château. The estate guarantees the quality and consistency of its approach through its official Organic Wine label. No weedkillers or pesticides are used. The soil is worked entirely through light ploughing to control grass growth. Only natural products are used to protect the vineyard. The estate has been certified biodynamic since 2012. Bud removal, leaf removal and green harvesting: these viticultural techniques help to limit yields. They also aerate the bunches, thereby boosting the vines’ natural defences against disease.

In the cellar

Vinification takes place in small rotating stainless steel vats. Colour and tannin extraction is carried out slowly and gently. At the end of fermentation, the wines are transferred by gravity directly into barrels. No pumps are used during vinification in order to achieve greater finesse. Barrel ageing lasts between 14 and 18 months, depending on the vintage. Bottling takes place the following spring without filtration.
