Description
Simply magnificent! … This Sinople white Chinon from Château de Coulaine enchants us with its grace and vitality. The highly expressive nose evokes white fruits with exotic notes, complemented by a subtle, well-balanced oakiness – not excessive, just right. Lively and rich, with a hint of chalkiness, the palate offers a lovely balance between fruitiness, full-bodied texture and natural acidity. A magnificent wine to pair with river fish or a South Asian curry.
In the vineyard, in the cellar
Château de Coulaine’s Sinople white Chinon in detail:
- Grape variety: 100% Chenin
- Terroir: a premier cru located in the ‘Clos de Coulaine’ vineyard, a terroir composed of clay, silt and white tuffeau
- Age of vines: over 30 years
- Vinification: indigenous yeasts, fermentation and ageing in barrels, 20% of which are new, for 11 months. No filtration.
- Farming: certified organic
Organic farming at Château de Coulaine
Since 1997, Château de Coulaine has been certified organic. However, the process began long before that, as the desire to work the soil mechanically and without using herbicides had already taken root since the estate’s re-establishment in 1989. Efforts are being made to reduce soil tillage between the rows. This includes preserving the natural ground cover or sowing mixtures of plants that provide nutrients for the vines. It also involves the use of sexual confusion techniques to combat the proliferation of grape-damaging moths.
