Description
The Chablis 1er Cru Beauroy from Domaine de l’Enclos comes from a steeply sloping plot near Lake Beine. Rich and ripe, the wine evokes white fruits (peach, nectarine, nectarine plum) with a hint of exotic and smoky notes. The full-bodied palate emphasises richness and complexity, underpinned by a pleasant mineral tension on the finish. Why not pair it with some foie gras on toast or a veal blanquette?

Chablis 1er Cru Beauroy, flagship climat
On the left bank of the Serein, this flagship climat covers around 64 hectares, encompassing the Côte de Savant and Troesmes climats. Located in the commune of Poinchy-Chablis, Beauroy is a climat exposed to dry easterly winds. Due to its slope and a relatively dry water regime, the vines suffer during dry years. The soil, characterised by several geological layers, is poor and dry. The topsoil is thin, containing small stones and white calcareous clay with bluish hues. Beauroy is also a climat susceptible to frost. The risk is so high that in 1978, at the foot of the Côte de Savant vineyard, an artificial lake was created to combat spring frosts through sprinkler irrigation. This technique involves spraying the vines with fine droplets of water that form a protective layer of ice around the buds.
What is a flagship Chablis climat?
The Chablis vineyard comprises 79 cadastral localities designated for wine-growing within the defined area of the Chablis Premier Cru appellation. The INAO (Institut National de l’Origine et de la Qualité) has grouped these into 40 Climats that may be indicated on the bottle labels. In reality, only around twenty of these are commonly used.
A distinctive feature of Chablis is that these 40 Climats include 17 principal Climats, also known as ‘flagship’ Climats. Wines produced in the Climats neighbouring these principal ones may either bear the name of the Climat from which they are geographically derived, or take the name of the flagship Climat to which they are linked.
