Description

Juicy, full-bodied and lively, this Costières de Nîmes from Domaine de Périllière is a wine bursting with red (cherry) and black (blueberry, blackcurrant) fruits. It is fragrant with hints of vanilla, floral notes (violet) and gentle spices. The fine tannic structure and mineral character lend this wine a boundless energy. All this for exceptional value for money: hats off!

The grapes, harvested at optimal ripeness, produce a powerful, rich cuvée blending black fruits (blackberry, blueberry), spices (liquorice), floral scents (violet) and roasted notes (chocolate, coffee…). It can be enjoyed from a very young age thanks to its tannic structure, which is both rounded and smooth. Its smoothness and fullness will hold up well during the first few years of ageing.

In the vineyard, in the cellar

The Costières de Nîmes is a very specific appellation area bordering the southern part of the Côtes du Rhône, with the Gardon river forming their natural boundary. This young appellation stretches south of Nîmes and forms a gently rolling landscape between the Garrigues and the Camargue (hence its name, Costières). The soils are of fluvial origin: rounded pebbles, clay and occasionally sand. The vines of Domaine de Périllière are grown on a clay-and-stony hillside facing east/south-east in the commune of Sernhac.

A blend of Syrah (70%) and Grenache (30%). Currently converting to organic farming. A distinctive feature of this terroir is its relatively late ripening due to its eastern exposure: the grapes are therefore harvested around 10–15 days later than in Estézargues. Vinification is traditional, with a three-week vatting period at approximately 20–22°C and gentle extraction.
