Description
La Carrée from Domaine Henri Milan is one of the finest 100% Roussanne wines in existence. The tasting begins with an aromatic spell of rare intensity. The bouquet unfolds with elegant notes of bitter orange, mandarin, peach and apricot… and finishes with subtle hints of mint and wild herbs. On the palate, it combines roundness, power, a smooth texture and a long finish. A truly great wine that will stand the test of time whilst retaining its vitality.
In the vineyard, in the cellar
La Carrée is a 40-acre plot, 100% Roussanne, planted in 1991 at 4,000 vines per hectare. The vines are cultivated organically on loamy-clay soils with a subsoil of blue marl. Fermentation takes place without sulphites, using the indigenous yeasts naturally present on the grape skins and in the cellar. Matured in barrels (40% new, 60% old barrels).
The estate
Henri Milan is a unique estate in the wine world: an OVNI (Unidentified Winemaker Origin). For Henri, who established the estate’s reputation, winemaking is not a matter of technique. It is more about naturally supporting what the vines offer, using organic and biodynamic methods. His son Théophile now continues the adventure, preserving the estate’s style and sensibility. The result is original, complex wines, each reflecting its terroir. A harmony whose finesse and texture often evoke Burgundy… but in Provence.
