Description
The cuvée A la Folie by Marc Delienne comes from the parcel “Le Clos du Chapitre” in Saint-Amour. As is often the case with this winemaker, the wine combines a form of lightness and freedom with greedy and tasty aplomb. The fruity is both fresh and engaging; it combines small red fruits (raspberry, Mara des bois) and some black fruits (blackberry). After a little aeration and slightly refreshed, the wine is juicy and tasty. Don’t hesitate to carafe it for 30 minutes in the fridge, just enough time to throw a duck breast on the grill or cook a Lyonnais sausage.
Method of working
Just installed, Marc Delienne immediately converted his field into organic, also applying the principles of biodynamics, as a matter of course to avoid any hindrance to the memory of the soil. The vine is driven in goblets and the height of the plant is noticeably high, inspired by the method of Lalou Bize Leroy.
The conditions are difficult and sometimes extreme, especially on the vertiginous plot of the Madonna. The work with the winch and the pickaxe is exhausting for the men who work there, but the values of respect for nature, soil, plants, and the terroir are stronger. No matter the difficulties and trials that nature imposes: Marc Delienne saw viticulture as a resistance to the confiscation of time and the decay of the link with the earth.
The winery was created from scratch as soon as the estate was taken over. Concrete vats, half muids and Austrian foudres come together to reveal the quintessence of grapes. The vinifications are done naturally, without input, except for a little sulphite when necessary.
It’s hard to say from how many vintages you can attribute a “leg” to a winemaker, but Marc Delienne’s wines already have a clear guideline: bright fruitiness, rich materials, fine tannins, aerial structures; incredible energies in the mind of Jean-Louis Dutraive, his mentor on the appellation. Each cuvée has its own identity but a vibrant signature unites them.
