Description

Le Fronton Coste Rouge de La Colombière is a sumptuous expression of the Négrette grape. A wine with unusual floral aromas of rose, violet, juniper and red berries, with a hint of roasted notes. On the palate, it offers lovely body, power and generosity with supple tannins, freshness and minerality, alongside notes of pepper and sweet spices. With each vintage, Coste Rouge establishes itself as a great wine for fine dining. Once again this year, we award it our ‘Coup de Cœur’.

In the vineyard, in the cellar

A wine from a single 1.5-hectare plot of 40- to 50-year-old Négrette vines growing on quartz pebbles and red clay. Organic and biodynamic cultivation. Hand-harvested, vatting by gravity. Destemmed, uncrushed grapes. Natural vinification, without additives and by infusion. Hand-harvested, transferred to vats by gravity. Grapes sorted, destemmed, uncrushed. Natural vinification by infusion. Vatting for 30 days in concrete vats. Aged in raw concrete vats and 30hl casks for 12 months. Unfined, unfiltered wine. Bottled on 23 October 2023.

The experts’ verdict

This iconic estate in the Villaudric terroir produces particularly authentic and easy-drinking wines. A determined and enthusiastic young winemaking couple, Diane and Philippe Cauvin have chosen since 2006 to manage their vineyard using biodynamic methods (certified in 2012). Always full of energy, they have made a name for themselves with a first-class wine tourism offering for groups and individuals alike. Available in several cuvées, some made entirely from Négrette, the style of La Colombière’s wines is balanced, refined and subtle, without artifice or embellishment. This exemplary personal vision serves as a valuable benchmark in the current development of the Fronton appellation.
