Description
Col d'Orcia Rosso di Montalcino is a great classic of the region. It is made from the Sangiovese grape variety and offers a young, fruity expression of this variety. An intensity that only the Montalcino terroir is capable of delivering. The wine has a lovely deep ruby red colour with violet hues; the nose evokes ripe red berries, blackberry and cherry. Full-bodied and balanced, the palate unfolds with good structure and silky tannins.
In the vineyard
The Col d’Orcia vineyards are situated in Montalcino, on the south-facing hillside overlooking the River Orcia. They are entirely organically farmed. The average altitude above sea level is 250 metres. The vineyard is planted entirely with Sangiovese, the region’s iconic grape variety, also known as Brunello here in Tuscany.
In the cellar
Fermentation on the grape skins for approximately 10–12 days at a controlled temperature below 28°C in shallow, wide steel vats (150 hl) to preserve the fresh, vibrant fruit character for as long as possible. Aged for 12 months in Slovenian oak barrels ranging from 75 to 150 hl before bottling.
