"With its Irouleguy Tradition, the Arretxea estate redefines the appellation. It proves once again that red wines are not all heavily extracted and overly structured – quite the contrary. The bouquet of this wine opens with deep fruit notes of plum, tart cherry and blueberry, evoking the nature of the soil with its hints of graphite. Full-bodied, smooth and flavourful, the palate unfolds with silky tannins. A perfectly balanced harmony between the richness of the fruit and the power of the terroir."

Description

With its Irouleguy Tradition, the Arretxea estate redefines the appellation. It proves once again that red wines are not all heavily extracted and overly structured – quite the opposite, in fact. The bouquet of this wine opens with deep fruit notes of plum, tart cherry and blueberry, evoking the nature of the soil with its hints of graphite. Full-bodied, smooth and flavourful, the palate settles with silky tannins. A perfectly balanced harmony between the richness of the fruit and the power of the terroir.

In the vineyard, in the cellar

The Arretxea estate’s traditional Irouleguy red is made from three grape varieties:

  • 70% Tannat
  • 20% Cabernet Franc
  • 10% Cabernet Sauvignon.

Hand-harvested, sorted, uncrushed, macerated for 2 to 3 weeks. Maceration, fermentation and ageing in concrete vats for 12 months

What to eat with an Irouleguy Tradition from Domaine Arretxea?

  • Honey-glazed duck breast
  • Grilled beef
  • Chistorra
  • Gascogne garbure
  • Black pudding
  • Stuffed veal breast – Ossau-Iraty
