Description
The nose reveals aromas of dark fruits such as cherry and blackberry, along with floral notes that lend this wine greater depth, both in colour and body. Spicy notes also contribute to the wine’s profile. On the palate, it is creamy, round, fresh, generous and spicy. Its complexity requires plenty of time and patience, but guarantees you a thoroughly enjoyable experience. The finish is long, intense and lingering.
The terroir
In Burgundy, a ‘monopole’ refers to a single plot of land, a terroir that has been perfectly defined for centuries and belongs to a single owner. The Clos des Forêts Saint Georges covers a contiguous area of 7.2 hectares. A unique terroir and a privileged location have, since the very beginning, shaped one of the great wines of Nuits-Saint-Georges.
Find out more
- The Clos des Forêts Saint Georges encompasses the full geological spectrum of the Nuits-Saint-Georges hillside: Ladoix limestone at the foot of the slope, Premeaux limestone in the middle, and white oolite limestone at the top, with a marked presence of ochre-coloured silt in places. This Clos is planted entirely with Pinot Noir.
- Traditional winemaking: hand-harvested, minimal fermentation, gentle pumping-over and punching-down to reveal the full aromatic range of this great terroir. With a maximum of 50% new oak, ageing lasts an average of 15 months in barrels followed by 3 months in vats before bottling.
- A wine for ageing: the generous terroir of the Forêts Saint Georges shapes the soul of this wine. It builds a robust red around pronounced tannins that define a wine with ageing potential. A few years in the cellar allow it to open up; ageing makes it more graceful, silkier and more accomplished.
Food and Wine Pairings
This distinguished red deserves fine red meats. A rib of beef slow-cooked over embers is the obvious choice, but one might also consider a fillet of beef with pepper, a rack of lamb in a crust of mild spices, or a duck breast.
