Description
The nose reveals sublime aromas. On the palate, it is intense with crystal-clear fruit notes. With very little new oak, the wine takes centre stage, making it very pure and elegant. Intense, rich and deep, this is a great wine.
The terroir
The Romanée Saint Vivant plot is wonderfully situated, separated from Romanée Conti by a road. A fabulously bountiful land, a sublime soil blending clay and limestone, shapes one of the world’s greatest reds.

- A long history: founded in 1098, the Abbey of Cîteaux played a major role in the expansion of viticulture in Burgundy. The monks of Saint-Vivant de Vergy supported this new industry, as evidenced by the name they gave to this vineyard site in the Côte de Nuits.
- Wood, but not too much: despite, or perhaps because of, its Grand Cru status, vinification takes place in wooden vats. The wine is aged in barrels for 15 months, with a very measured proportion of new oak: 30 to 50 per cent, which helps to shape the wine and bring out subtly spicy notes. Bottling takes place after 18 months of ageing.
- Until 1990, the vineyard was managed by a winegrower from the village of Aloxe-Corton. The first wine produced by Domaine de l’Arlot bears the 1991 vintage.
Food and Wine Pairings
With a wine like this, don’t hold back – think big, very big: a fillet of beef with truffle sauce
, duck à l’orange or a young hen with porcini mushrooms
. And in the autumn, a hare à la royale will pair perfectly with this legendary red.
