Chablis Grand Cru Blanchot
The light colour of the soil and subsoil of this Chablis Grand Cru vineyard gave it its name. To the east of the Grands Crus hill, Blanchot stretches over 12.7 hectares. This complex terroir is reputed to be difficult to work. Its east/south-east aspect gives it limited sun exposure: Blanchot enjoys the morning sun before it moves on, yet paradoxically remains a warm terroir. Its steep slope and sheltered position allow the grapes to ripen slowly, and the harvest generally takes place here well after that of its neighbour, Les Clos. Its subsoil of Kimmeridgian limestone gives way in places to very white, nutrient-poor clays containing shells, to pebbles, or even to sticky or drying blue and green clays.
