Jean-Marie Chaland
Mâcon Burgy
Terres Rouges 2020

46.00

"Jean-Marie Chaland’s Mâcon-Burgy Terres Rouges is made from 80% Gamay noir à jus blanc and 20% Gamay de Chaudenay, Gamay de Bouze and Gamay Fréau. Its deep, dark ruby colour is impressive. The nose reveals black cherry, blackberry, undergrowth, a hint of spice and a touch of liquorice. On the palate, it delightfully combines richness, freshness, structure, juicy fruit and a lovely salinity on the finish. A wine that’s anything but a cheap plonk – just the sort we love – proving that great drinkability, richness and ease of drinking are by no means incompatible with good body and a certain poise. A fine wine that will be perfect in a couple of years’ time to accompany game or a lamb tagine."

. Jean-Marie Chaland’s estate covers 9 hectares, mainly planted with Chardonnay, spread across 23 plots in Viré, Montbellet and Burgy. The vines are organically farmed, certified since 2003, with an average age of over 50 years. We have been following this estate for several vintages; it is one of the artisan winemakers of southern Burgundy. The range is consistent, without any artificial enhancements or sophisticated ageing; the wines bear the hallmark of the terroir, offering an elegant, fresh and delicate expression of Chardonnay, with a maturity that is always perfectly balanced, without excess. Their very elegant Gamay, with its sparkling fruit, is also a fine addition for wine lovers.
