Auvergne wine appellations in the Loire

Did you know?!

As surprising as it may seem given its location, the Auvergne

appellations belong to the Loire

Valley

wine family. They are therefore the southernmost representatives of this family.

Puy-de-Dôme PGI

The IGP Puy-de-Dôme
is one of two wine-growing areas situated within the territory of the former administrative region of Auvergne (which became Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes in 2016). It produces still white, red and rosé wines grown on the slopes of the Massif Central. The vines are planted on small plots, almost always on steep slopes, and on stony soils that warm up easily. The red and rosé wines are made mainly from the Pinot Noir grape variety. The red wines have a deep colour and their aromas are fruity and spicy. As for the rosés and whites, they combine notes of ripeness and freshness.
