Description
The Saint-Amour Côte de Besset from Domaine Agapé is a rich and harmonious wine. Notes of stone fruit blend with hints of undergrowth. A lively, crisp acidity complements a full-bodied and harmonious palate. Perfect with braised guinea fowl or duck breast with three peppers.
In the vineyard, in the cellar
Arthur Lotrous chose to convert his Les Sources d’Agapé
estate to organic farming immediately. He works the soil beneath the vines and maintains a grassed strip between the rows. He trains the vines in the traditional goblet style, without trellising, tying them one by one to preserve as much foliage as possible. His 6 hectares of Saint-Amour, in a single block, are separated from his neighbours by embankments and hedges. He harvests by hand into crates to preserve the grapes.
La Côte de Besset comprises a group of plots situated halfway up the hillside, covering approximately 0.5 hectares of Gamay planted in 1960. The soil consists mainly of piedmont and alluvial deposits. Hand-harvested with 10 days of whole-bunch carbonic maceration. Fermented exclusively with indigenous yeasts. This is followed by 6 months’ ageing. Yield: 31 hl/ha.
