Description
Marc Delienne’s Fleurie Abbaye Road is a blend of various wines aged primarily in 30-hectolitre casks; it offers greater concentration than the estate’s other cuvées whilst retaining the freshness and precision that are the hallmark of the estate. The result is a full-bodied, deep palate with notes of dark fruit (plum) and hints of oriental spices.
In the vineyard, in the cellar
Located in the south-east of the Fleurie vineyard, the soils are predominantly sandy or sandy-loam, derived from primary rock (granite) or ancient alluvial deposits, with a surface layer that is sometimes very stony and a depth ranging from shallow to medium. The Gamay Noir vines, aged between 40 and over 80 years, are planted at a density of around 10,000 vines per hectare and pruned in the goblet style. The vines are trained quite high. The soils are worked. Hand-harvested into small crates, sorted in the cellar. Whole-bunch maceration in temperature-controlled concrete vats. No added yeast or sugar. No punching down, just light daily pumping over. Short vatting periods (between 6 and 12 days depending on the cuvée). Aged for 11 months, mainly in 30hl casks, with a few new 600l demi-muids and a few 5-wine barriques.
