The Sources d’Agapé estate takes its name from its address, “Rue des Sources”, and from the Greek word ‘Agapé’, which means ‘unconditional love’. A definition that fits Arthur Lotrous perfectly, the new winemaker working the vineyards of Saint-Amour.
After completing his BTS in Viticulture and Oenology, Arthur cut his teeth in the Bordeaux region and then in Burgundy alongside the Bret Brothers, where he trained in biodynamics in particular. In late 2018, he seized the opportunity to establish his own estate by acquiring a single block of 6 hectares on the Côte de Besset in Saint Amour. He immediately began converting this isolated patch of vines to organic farming, a plot kept separate from its neighbours by embankments and hedges. Through organic farming practices, Arthur aims to reveal the terroir of the Domaine des Sources d’Agapé, composed mainly of sandstone scree and alluvial deposits.
From his very first vintage (2019), Arthur has brought a personal touch to Les Sources d’Agapé.
The Côte de Besset is divided into three plots, each vinified separately to produce these three cuvées: “Le Mont Besset”, “La Côte de Besset” and “Le Petit Besset”.
Each expresses its own uniqueness, yet all share a sense of elegance
and precision. This did not go unnoticed by the RVF tasters, who awarded 90/100 and 88/100 respectively to “Mont Besset 2019” and “Petit Besset 2019”.
