The Corbières-Boutenac appellation covers 220 hectares. It is reserved for around ten communes around Boutenac. It was officially recognised by the decree of 20 May 2005. Its exclusively red wines are the result of very rigorous production methods. The appellation has a distinctly Mediterranean character, producing exclusively red wines. These wines result from a blend of at least two grape varieties, including the famous Carignan Noir. As the appellation’s key variety – by decree, it must account for between a minimum of 30% and a maximum of 50% of the vineyard’s planting – and with vines that must be at least nine years old, this is where it finds its ideal terroir. The finest expressions of Boutenac yield aromatic wines, with notes of black fruit, plum and garrigue that develop a mineral character. It offers excellent ageing potential, with freshness and good acidity. It contributes to the balance of Corbières-Boutenac wines, defining their profile and structure. Carignan gives them their distinctive character and a touch of its soul!
